UpdateContacts

Privacy policy

How UpdateContacts handles your information. Last updated 12 August 2026.

The short version

UpdateContacts reads the contacts on your phone in order to find numbers using the old 7-digit format. Those contacts are never uploaded, shared or sold. There is no account, no sign-in and no device identifier. Nothing personal leaves your phone.

Contacts

With your permission, UpdateContacts reads the names and phone numbers stored on your device so it can work out which numbers need the new format. This processing happens entirely on the device.

  • Your address book is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
  • Scan results are held in memory only. They are not written to storage, and closing the app discards them.
  • Contacts are modified only for the numbers you have reviewed and confirmed. Each edit targets a single phone entry; names, photos, notes, groups and other fields are untouched.

Backups

Before any bulk update, UpdateContacts writes a backup of your contacts to your device. It is encrypted with AES-256 and authenticated with HMAC-SHA-256. The encryption key is generated on your device and stored in the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore; it is never transmitted, and it is not included in an exported file.

Backups live in the app's private storage. Deleting a backup in the app removes it. Uninstalling the app removes all backups and the encryption key.

If you explicitly choose to export a backup, that exported copy is readable by whatever app you share it with. The app warns you before this happens.

Anonymous usage statistics

UpdateContacts can collect anonymous counters — for example, that a scan finished, or how many numbers were updated. This is off by default and can be switched on or off at any time in Settings.

  • Event names come from a fixed list; no free text is ever sent.
  • Values are filtered before sending: anything containing a run of four or more digits is discarded, so a phone number cannot be transmitted even by mistake.
  • No user identifier, device identifier or advertising identifier is attached to any event.

Purchases

The one-time unlock is processed by Apple or Google. UpdateContacts never sees or stores your card details. If receipt validation is enabled, only the store purchase token and the product identifier are sent for verification — no contact data is involved.

UpdateContacts does not request location, camera, microphone or storage permissions.

This website

The number converter runs entirely in your browser; numbers you type are not sent anywhere. The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies.

Children

UpdateContacts is a utility with no social features, no user-generated content and no advertising. It is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children.

Your rights

Because nothing personal is collected or transmitted, there is no personal data held on a server to access, correct or delete. Everything the app holds is on your device and under your control: delete backups in the app, revoke contacts permission in your device settings, or uninstall to remove everything.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published here with a new date, and the app will note the change.
