What is changing
From 4 September 2026, every Gambian mobile number gains a two-digit operator prefix in front of the seven digits you already know. The old 7-digit numbers saved in your phone will stop connecting, and there can be thousands of them.

Numbers starting 40 or 41 look like landlines but are Africell mobile numbers, so they do change. Gamtel landlines, short codes such as emergency numbers, USSD strings like *123# and international numbers all stay as they are.
